The submission portal reopening & updated submission requirements

Following our summer break, our submission system will open again on September 1. With the reopening, we are introducing updated submission requirements to further strengthen the quality, transparency, and reproducibility of the research we publish. Moving forward, authors will need to adhere to the following updated guidelines (full details available on our Submissions Page):

• Ethical Approval: All studies involving human participants must have explicit approval from a relevant Research Ethics Committee (REC) or Institutional Review Board (IRB).

• Open Data & Materials: To support reproducibility, all quantitative submissions must include anonymized data and research materials (e.g., codebooks, analytical scripts, outputs, measures, and stimuli) hosted in a secure, open repository.

• Preregistration: In line with open science principles, preregistration is now required for all experimental studies. While not mandatory for other study designs, preregistration remains strongly recommended.

We firmly believe these measures protect research integrity and ensure our published work remains robust and impactful for our community.

Implementation Timeline

These policies apply to all new manuscripts submitted on or after September 1, 2026. They do not apply retroactively to papers submitted prior to this date; consequently, upcoming issues will still contain work reviewed under our previous guidelines.
